The main four characters of these series are practically twins because of their characteristics. Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter are both created by Yoshihiro Togashi in which Togashi even based most of these characters from Hunter x Hunter off of his past series, Yu Yu Hakusho.

Yusuke Urameshi → Gon Freecss

Kazuma Kuwabara → Leorio Paladiknight

Kurama → Kurapika

Hiei → Killua Zoldyck

I finished Yu Yu Hakusho and it was pretty good. I liked that Yusuke started off as a punk and by the end of it acted his age but was still a bit of a asshole. All the characters felt a lot more human than most Shonen stuff (Bleach,Naruto,DBZ) and it really didn’t have any filler. The only part that I didn’t enjoy was the middle of the Dark Tournament Arc,it felt like not much was happening but I toughed through and got a great battle with Yusuke fighting Toguro.
Basically you should watch Yu Yu Hakusho because it’s really good. Also is Hunter X Hunter as good as YYH? I want to see more stuff from this guy.

Hunter x hunter is also very good!!! My favorite shonen of all time! Any little story issues or ticks or whatever that the creator had in Yu Yu Hakusho are basically gone in HxH - like he has perfected his story telling. The 2011 anime starts out feeling like its a bit for a younger audience, but this because they started out censoring it. (They do stop though once the series gets darker).
Also another series by Togashi is Level E - I actually am halfway through it right now…it’s 12 episodes long and although a bit different is also pretty good :) but HxH is a must see!
